We've had nothing but good experiences at BSS until last night. The staff is very nice, timely, and helpful, and the drinks are very good. However, at least a few patrons' taste for Big Spring whiskey soured last night, when we were kicked out, while a mere 1:30 remained on the clock in a riveting Penn State football game. This customer is still wondering about the rationale of a bar that stays open past their early closing time, only to eject paying customers just a few minutes before the winning catch...
We tried this place for the first time last night. We liked the drinks/environment and were enjoying watching the PSU vs Iowa game until we got kicked out right before the game ended. I understand not deviating from operating hours on a normalized basis; however, when you have a very important game on in the eyes of your local community and one that could become an instant classic (which it did) it is prudent to either allow your patrons to stay to finish the game (an extra 15 minutes) or tell them hours earlier that they will not deviate from closing if the game exceeds xyz time so the patrons can make alternate plans. Disappointed in this complete absence of customer service. If they don't care about their patrons that much, we'll go back to our other "go to" establishments that do.
Regardless, it was not edible. The bartender took it once I explained. He never said if he was getting me another or if he would refund it. We finished our drinks and asked for our checks. I saw the bartender go over to speak to the chef. When i received my check the bartender explained that the chef would not allow the bread pudding to be refunded as it was made perfectly. I don't know if it's true that the chef is a "subcontractor" at Big Spring but I also work in food service and i know that no matter how good you are no one is perfect! If nothing else the chef should have spoke with me if he had no intentions of refunding it. It's called customer service! Unfortunately, it will be awhile before my friends and I return to Big Spring Distillery.
I love the candles I purchased for Christmas! The tasting room was warm and cozy. All the staff were so kind!
Great atmosphere, food, drinks, & people! Lots of fun merchandise.
I feel I'm a regular at Big Spring as I'm there most Friday nights. I love their vodka. Last night was my first sour experience. I ordered the chocolate bread pudding. It took awhile to get it and when I took a bite of it there was a burnt taste to it. Either the bread was burnt around the entire outside or chocolate was on it and burnt. My friend tried it and also agreed it was burnt.
